A new marketing gimmick?
Last Sunday, my darling Jen and i paid a visit to a friend's hse. We agreed to meet up for lunch and that my friend's mum would do a steamboat meal for us. It was awesome. Loved the fried chicken wings alot. Jen loves the meat ball and the wan tan mee.Half way through our STEAMY lunch, i spotted at 3/4 filled bottle of Lampe Berger(LB) on the floor. Then, there spark a new conversation around the table.
For those who still do not know what it is, you could click on that link. However, the site does not really promote its main business activity which is recently very popular with Malaysian. Traditionally, LB sells scented oil which supposingly to be some sort of aromatherapy when burnt. Along trading with these oil, they also sell pretty bottles/burners which some could range up to about 40grands. Yes, your eyes did not played with your mind. I meant USD40,000. Believe it or not? Just check them out at ebay. :)
Ok, oil and ridiculously priced burner set aside. Remember i mentioned something about activities popular amongst Malaysian? Yeap, apparently, LB offers lucrative reward in the shape of salary to all of its members. To earn this 'attractive' form of income, interested individuals must pay a sum of money, which if my memory serve me right, the figure was around Rm2k to 3k to start off his/her membership with LB. After joining, the new member are "encouraged" (they claim encourage) to introduce this new attractive money-making scheme to 5 or more of his/her friends. Then, it goes on from there. You'd be repay with mad monthly income and would recieve more if you recruit more members to join them. Welcome to the world of Multi Level Marketting.
What i did not mentioned was, in between joining, LB would host weekly seminars where newly joined members are required to attend for a "small" fee in order to brush up their "persuading" skills. This workshop is to train these guilible peoples to encourage their 'friends' to be their 'business partner' with LB.
Call me conservative, but somehow or rather, i find this unethical. From my point of view, i see this as a betrayal of friend's privasy. Due to this MLM phenomenal lately, I've lost a sum of friends who i thought previously, were sincere ones. I am totally disgusted with these MLM schemes and would very quickly shut anyone out who even tried to pursuade me to join them. The moral of this story, humans are so easily exploited due to their greed and materialistic character.

ps: I myself is one big materialistic money-minded bastard. However, i hold tight to my own principle in life. If you want to own big houses, drive expensive cars, live luxuriously, study smart, get a good job, spend your money.
Lost and rejected Guilible Friends who claimed wanting to help me be financially independent count: 14 and counting
